User expectations for Internet quality are rising in Southern Europe

How do users perceive their Internet connectivity and what drives their expectations? Recent DE-CIX surveys in Spain and Portugal highlight how performance, reliability, and access to high-speed networks are shaping user behavior.

In Spain, the results show a strong willingness among consumers to switch providers in search of better performance. More than half of respondents indicated they would consider changing their Internet provider if expectations around speed and reliability are not met. This reflects increasing awareness of connectivity quality and a growing demand for consistent digital experiences.

At the same time, Portugal demonstrates how infrastructure development is progressing. The survey highlights widespread availability of gigabit Internet, underlining the country’s advancement in high-speed connectivity. As access improves, user expectations continue to evolve, with performance and reliability becoming key differentiators.

Together, these insights show a clear trend: As digital services become more central to everyday life, users expect fast, seamless, and reliable connectivity.
