DE-CIX Expands its Interconnection Ecosystem in Brazil with New Internet Exchange in Rio de Janeiro

With 10 networks already integrated, the new IX strengthens digital transformation in Rio and delivers high-quality connections for businesses and service providers

Rio de Janeiro. After successfully launching operations in São Paulo, DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, is expanding its presence in Brazil with DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro, its newest interconnection hub in the country. The IX features distributed infrastructure across multiple data centers in the city and is now operational, with the first 10 networks connected, including Sjnet Telecomunicações and Nexuslink Datacenter.

The arrival of DE-CIX in Rio provides local companies, Internet service providers (ISPs), cloud platforms, and corporate networks with access to a neutral, high-performance platform for direct traffic exchange (peering) and multicloud interconnection. In a game-changing move for Brazil, DE-CIX has interconnected its IX infrastructure to allow connected networks in Rio to directly access networks peering at DE-CIX Sao Paulo, as well as DE-CIX New York and the North American and global DE-CIX ecosystems. This infrastructure ensures faster, more secure, and more stable connections, improving data exchange between networks and digital services in Brazil and internationally.

Companies already connected to the new IX express optimism about improved connectivity and network performance.

Driving Digital Transformation in Rio de Janeiro

DE-CIX Rio comes at a pivotal moment for the city’s digital infrastructure, meeting the growing demand for reliable, high-quality connectivity. The IX strengthens the delivery of content, cloud services, corporate solutions, and faster, more efficient AI capabilities, driving the growth of Rio’s digital economy.

With this new infrastructure, companies in Rio and the surrounding region gain a neutral, flexible, and reliable connection option, ensuring efficiency, security, and quality for network operators of all kinds – from major ISPs, carriers, and content networks to small providers, startups, large enterprises, and public institutions.

"Rio de Janeiro plays a strategic role in Brazil’s connectivity. Through our infrastructure, we aim to grow the region’s digital ecosystem, connecting the city to the world with efficiency, security, and high performance," says Darwin da Costa, Business Development Director Brazil, at DE-CIX.
