Frankfurt am Main/Stockholm, 14 May 2020: The world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator DE-CIX and the largest IX provider in the Nordics, Netnod, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing on a partnership going forward. In a first step, this partnership includes the direct interconnection of the world’s largest IX by peak traffic, DE-CIX Frankfurt, and the Stockholm-based Netnod IX via GlobePEER Remote and Netnod’s Remote IX service. In addition, both companies have agreed to sell each other’s interconnection services. The reseller activities also relate to all active locations of the respective parties. This partnership is planned to be extended to other Netnod IXs in the Nordics in due course, expanding DE-CIX’s global interconnection ecosystem to the highly digitally-mature Northern European region and vice versa.
“With Netnod, we have found the ideal partner to further extend DE-CIX’s global reach to Northern Europe and the Nordics. Netnod and DE-CIX share the same DNA and experience, as we have both been in the business for decades. Through this partnership, we are creating optimal synergies for both companies – interconnecting Stockholm and Frankfurt with the GlobePEER Remote service. DE-CIX is therefore making interconnection and the availability of products easy for our customers. For us at DE-CIX, it is exciting to open up these highly developed markets in Scandinavia to our customers,” Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX International, comments on the new partnership.
“We are pleased that, through close cooperation with DE-CIX, we are able to give customers even more choice of how they connect and exchange traffic,” said Lars Michael Jogbäck, Netnod CEO. “As ever, our goal is to scale with customers’ needs, help grow their networks, and offer the most flexible and competitively priced services available. We look forward to working in partnership with DE-CIX to help make Europe and the Nordics better interconnected than ever before.”
