Building the connectivity layer for the AI era

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way networks need to operate. As AI workloads move closer to end users, the pressure on infrastructure is growing: Applications require extremely low latency, traffic must be routed efficiently, and at the same time, networks must continue to treat all data equally. To address these challenges, new distributed AI-compute concepts are emerging, such as localized AI Pods designed to process inference workloads directly at the edge.
This evolution highlights the importance of neutral, scalable interconnection. Through initiatives like the collaboration announced with Connected Nation in 2023, DE-CIX contributes the interconnection foundation needed for these developments. By expanding neutral IX platforms into new regions, DE-CIX supports resilient, high-performance connectivity that modern AI architectures increasingly rely on. The platforms operated by DE-CIX enable local, regional, and global networks to exchange traffic efficiently, ensuring that emerging AI deployments can perform reliably, wherever they are implemented.
The progress over the past years shows how quickly the landscape is changing. In 2025, ground was broken on the first new exchange with Connected Nation in Wichita, which is an important milestone demonstrating how local interconnection can support next-generation digital services. Additional AI-ready infrastructure is to be introduced at CN IXP locations as they are built, including deployments by Moonshot and Qumulus Cloud, whose AI Pod concepts rely on strong, neutral interconnection to function effectively.
As AI continues to evolve, DE-CIX remains committed to enabling the connectivity layer that makes these innovations possible. Neutral, high performance interconnection is becoming a critical part of the AI ecosystem and DE-CIX is ready to support the innovators building the next generation of AI driven services.
