DE-CIX opens new IXs in Malaysia

DE-CIX is taking its global interconnection success model to the next level and will be entering South East Asia. Together, DE-CIX and the local Malaysian Internet Exchange provider JBIX will run together two Internet Exchanges in the greater Kuala Lumpur and the Johor Bahru region – with more to come on the Malaysian peninsula.

We will also introduce a shared interconnection platform where participants of both exchanges will be able to interconnect. The award-winning DE-CIX Apollon platform will be available at all locations, allowing the provisioning of different interconnection services like peering and cloud services.

One of the world’s most dynamic economies

Malaysia is one of the world's most dynamic economies, and it lies right in the heart of South East Asia, in the center of a region with a population of more than 600 million people. The inhabitants in the ASEAN region are creating a massive digital demand that needs to be served. Key content and cloud-computing players have already started to extend their footprint in Malaysia.

First stops: Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur

In Johor Bahru more than 40 networks are connected and are already peering. Johor Bahru is one of the biggest cities in Malaysia and lies right at the border to Singapore, only a stone's throw away. The exchange in Kuala Lumpur will be ready for service in 2020). Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia’s capital city, and by far the biggest city in Malaysia, with a population of 1.7 million. It is the center of the Greater Kuala Lumpur region with a population of more than 7 million.
