Deutsche Glasfaser becomes first company worldwide to connect via 800GE at DE-CIX Frankfurt

DE-CIX has reached a major milestone in interconnection technology: Deutsche Glasfaser is now the first customer globally to be connected via an 800-Gigabit-Ethernet (800GE) port at DE-CIX Frankfurt, Europe’s largest Internet Exchange. This sets a new benchmark not just for DE-CIX, but for the global interconnection industry.
Simplified infrastructure, higher efficiency
The connection is powered by Nokia’s 800G-ZR+ single-lambda optics, which transmit 800 Gigabits per second over a single wavelength. This innovation simplifies infrastructure, reduces energy consumption, and doubles data throughput — all provisioned fully automatically within hours.
With a total capacity of 1.6 Terabits per second at DE-CIX Frankfurt, Deutsche Glasfaser is laying the foundation for faster, more stable, and more sustainable internet access across Germany. The company is a leading force in fiber expansion, especially in rural and suburban areas.
This deployment also reflects the strength of DE-CIX’s long-standing partnership with Nokia, built on more than a decade of collaboration in routing and optical technologies. Together, they continue to push the boundaries of scalable, automated, and future-ready network infrastructure.
