New global traffic record at DE-CIX: 25 Tbps across all IXs

25Tbps traffic

DE-CIX has set a new global peak traffic record. On the evening of 8 April, data throughput across all DE-CIX Internet Exchanges worldwide reached an impressive 25 terabits per second (Tbps). This new record reflects a 130% increase in global peak traffic since 2020.

Unlike previous records, which were typically set at larger individual locations, this new peak was the result of simultaneous strong throughput across multiple metropolitan areas – including Frankfurt, Madrid, Istanbul, and Dallas.

Peering: Foundation of high-performance Internet

The peak was a result of higher-than-usual data traffic driven by a combination of events, such as live sports streaming and large-scale software updates, alongside the everyday use of digital content and services, demonstrating the vital role of peering as the foundation of a stable and high-performance Internet.

The new record is part of a broader trend of increasing global data exchange, underlining the importance of resilient, high-capacity interconnection infrastructure.

DE-CIX operates over 50 Internet and Cloud Exchanges around the globe and interconnects thousands of networks. The DE-CIX platform is accessible from data centers in over 600 cities worldwide.
