DE-CIX and AFR-IX Kick Off Reseller Partnership – Building Interconnection Bridges to the African Continent

Frankfurt am Main/Barcelona/Lisbon, 11 September 2019: DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, is today announcing a reseller agreement with AFR-IX telecom, a Barcelona-based “one-stop shop” for African IT needs. AFR-IX telecom is one of the first resellers for DE-CIX Lisbon, a new site recently launched in early 2019. DE-CIX Lisbon is located at the carrier-neutral data center of Equinix in Lisbon, with close to 20 networks connected. It is also interconnected to DE-CIX Madrid, the fastest growing Internet Exchange by customer growth globally – with nearly 150 active networks connected.

“We are proud to have reached a reseller agreement with AFR-IX telecom and a great team of experts for the African IT market. Lisbon is the place where the sea cables from Western Africa and South America first hit the European continent. So it is a perfect match for African networks. Connecting in Lisbon instead of London saves data transport costs and reduces latency by at least 30 milliseconds round trip time (RTT). Also, through DE-CIX Lisbon’s direct connection to DE-CIX Madrid, the customers will soon be able to connect to DE-CIX Frankfurt – the world’s leading IX with 850+ connected networks – and other regional Internet Exchanges,” says Theresa Bobis, Regional Director Southern Europe at DE-CIX.

“This reseller agreement with DE-CIX enables us to offer direct access to DE-CIX at Lisbon, decreasing the latency to reach Internet in Europe. This agreement highlights our commitment to helping our customers and improving the Internet connection in main markets of Africa,” says Miguel Angel Acero, CTO at AFR-IX telecom.
