We are upgrading the edge routers at DE-CIX Frankfurt to new Nokia 7750 SR-14 models – equipping our Internet Exchange for the future era of 800-Gigabit Ethernet (GE).
Next generation hardware
DE-CIX and Nokia have a longstanding relationship, encompassing joint R&D efforts and standardization initiatives. Nokia recently introduced new features to its 7750 SR line-up, including 800GE support and a significant reduction in power consumption – and through our partnership with Nokia, we have access to this next generation hardware.
The 7750 SR routers are specialized edge routers powered by the Nokia FP5 network processor. Edge routers in general are a particularly critical element of an Internet Exchange as they are located at the edge of the network and enable the connection of an internal network with external networks.
With 35 locations in the Frankfurt metro region and over 1,000 connected networks, the upgrade ensures best-in-class performance, smooth operations, and a future-proof platform for our customers, with access to reliable and seamless peering and interconnection services.
The upgrade has already started and is expected to be finished in the summer – we will be installing three new high-performance routers.
