UNN and DE-CIX form a new interconnection hub for Southeast Asia: Welcome Borneo-IX!

Today we are celebrating the launch of Borneo-IX – a newly established interconnection hub on Borneo, the largest island in Asia, formed as a strategic partnership with Brunei’s national telecommunications provider Unified National Networks (UNN). Borneo-IX, located at the Tungku Submarine Cable Station in Brunei Darussalam, is aimed to serve the Southeast Asian region in addition to DE-CIX Internet Exchanges in Malaysia and Singapore. With Borneo-IX, customers will gain access to a vibrant Southeast Asian interconnection ecosystem.

Bringing low-latency and high-speed to the area

While Borneo is well-positioned in the center of Southeast Asia, Brunei is also known as a landing station for several international submarine cables, and is terrestrially connected to Malaysia and Indonesia. However, businesses in the region are in need of robust and flexible interconnection services. The DE-CIX Asia interconnection ecosystem, now including Borneo-IX, brings low-latency and high-speed connectivity to underserved areas of the region.

Borneo-IX as part of the DE-CIX-as-a-service program

The new interconnection hub will be operated by DE-CIX on behalf of UNN, as part of the DE-CIX as a Service program, designed for third parties to create their own Internet Exchange and interconnection platform, delivering them a fully pre-configured and standardized technical set-up needed for an Internet Exchange.
