Data center operated by NTT to become DE-CIX-enabled site

Frankfurt am Main, 18 November 2020: DE-CIX, the world’s leading Internet Exchange operator, is expanding its presence in the Munich (Germany). NTT Global Data Centers’ Munich 2 data center will become a DE-CIX-enabled site, and will thus be directly connected to the DE-CIX interconnection ecosystem, as of 1 December.

As a DE-CIX-enabled site, NTT can offer its customers at the business location Munich direct access to all DE-CIX interconnection services, including GlobePEER, Virtual PNI, and Cloud Exchange services. In addition to DirectCLOUD and InterconnectionFLEX, these services also include the recently-launched Microsoft Azure Peering Service, which enables direct safeguarding of Microsoft 365 workloads and is particularly suitable for business customers in all industries.

“Munich is one of the strongest German metropolitan regions, and is very prosperous both from an economic and interconnection point of view”, Thomas King, Chief Technology Officer at DE-CIX, comments on the Munich location. “DE-CIX Munich currently has almost 200 connected networks, and new customers are joining on a weekly basis. We are pleased to work with NTT for the expansion of our Munich site, and are confident that our mutual customers will benefit from the new DE-CIX-enabled site.”

Jens Möller, Director Direct Sales of the Global Data Centers EMEA division of NTT Ltd., emphasizes the importance of interconnection services: “The flexibility, reliability, and security of IT infrastructure is today more decisive than ever for the economic stability of companies. Processes must be digitalized and also reliably available in the home-office environment. This requires high bandwidths, short latency times, and secure access to IT services. As a DE-CIX-enabled site, we offer our customers at our Munich location the highest quality in interconnectivity, and thus an additional added value.”

Munich 2, with about 6,200m2 of data center space, is a state-of-the-art Tier 3 data center in Unterschleissheim in the north of Munich. A sophisticated concept consisting of redundant power supply and standardized security processes – with a 7-stage security system and its own 24/7 control center – guarantees a maximum of security. At the same time, NTT operates a Technology Experience Lab at its Munich 2 location, where customers can test new applications, processes, and technologies in this secure environment. In particular customers in the automotive sector, who are testing new applications for future mobility, will benefit from the additional interconnection of the data center as a DE-CIX Enabled Site.
