New case study: How dmTech improved their cloud connectivity

dm-drogerie markt is Germany’s biggest drugstore chain with over 41,000 employees and more than 2,000 stores. dmTech, the IT subsidiary of dm-drogerie markt, is pursuing a hybrid multicloud strategy and is increasingly shifting IT workloads to different cloud platforms. As online business is growing in importance, the original method of enabling connection via VPN tunnels needed to be replaced by a better solution; one that guarantees stable, low-latency connectivity.

Build for the future

dmTech chose DE-CIX’s InterconnectionFLEX, a service designed specifically for enterprise customers, which made it easy for them to establish all required types of WAN connectivity on a singleswitched, redundant connection to DE-CIX, and to bundle them centrally. The flexibility of the service means that future connectivity requirements can also be implemented quickly.

We were able to organize our entire multicloud connection in a stable and latency-optimized manner through the DE-CIX solution, and also to optimize the central Internet connection. It makes a lot of sense for us to provide ourselves with connectivity right at the heart of the Internet.”

Significant latency improvements

Implementing InterconnectionFLEX and multicloud connectivity resulted in significant latency improvements. Connections to important servers hosted in the cloud now run at less than 3 milliseconds round-trip time in some cases. The number of IP hops has been reduced by up to 40%. The Internet connection of the central data centers (and the connections of the individual stores that were based on this) was also greatly optimized in terms of latency.
