There have been a lot of developments in the past few months at DE-CIX India. Since the time before the Covid-19 measures in India and around the globe, there has been a strong rise in data traffic from Internet usage – up to 192 percent. To keep up with the demand for seamless and secure interconnection, we have further increased our geographical presence and upgraded our backbone in India.
New traffic peak in Mumbai
During the global lockdown, DE-CIX Mumbai recorded peak Internet traffic of 1.3 Terabits per second (Tbps) and the exchange has doubled its backbone capacity recently, taking its interconnection ecosystem to a whole new level. Since May, we also offer our DirectCLOUD service in Mumbai allowing customers to access the DE-CIX cloud exchange and connect to global cloud service providers.
Increasing capacity
A new point of presence (PoP) in Mumbai has been established at the GPX2 data center. The state-of-the-art facility allows us to offer our interconnection services to new customers. DE-CIX Mumbai is now present in six data centers across the financial capital of India.
We have also expanded the Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network capacity in the Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata markets. By replacing existing devices, we have increased capacity up to 320GE and the software upgrades provide better performance and reliability.
Largest exchange in India, second largest in APAC
DE-CIX India has four locations on the subcontinent: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata. The largest one, DE-CIX Mumbai, serves over 270 networks. According to PeeringDB data, DE-CIX Mumbai is the second largest Internet Exchange in APAC and the largest neutral exchange on the Indian subcontinent.
